Because every special occasion begins with the perfect invitation, Heleene Fink welcomes you to her store, Special Occasions and Designs. "Whether you are a first time party giver with no idea of what is involved or an experienced hostess who knows exactly what she wants, I will be glad to meet with you and guide you through the process," Heleene says.

Easily found in Salem on Loring Avenue directly across from Stanetsky's and three buildings down from Periwinkles, Special Occasions is your one-stop shop for invitations and all the accessories that go with them. Ample parking is available.

Starting 15 years ago at her home in Marblehead, Heleene has been assisting customers with their invitation needs, particularly Weddings, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and Parties. When her own children got older and her business became too large to continue working from home, Heleene moved into her store on Loring Avenue where she has continued to see her customers and has been located for seven years.

Today, with over 200 books to select from - the area's largest selection - she still maintains the dining room table setting where customers can take their time browsing and feel comfortable doing it.

"When a new customer comes in, we chat for awhile about what she is looking for in an invitation. We discuss color, theme, paper, style and price to determine what it is she'd like to create. Then we can narrow the selection process. I truly love what I do and hope that my personalized service makes each customer feel as if she is the only one," Heleene stated. Note that there is a 20 percent discount on each invitation package.

The largest percentage of her clients are repeat customers and referrals. "I am very proud to have such a loyal following. When customers return for a second Bar or Bat Mitzvah, Wedding or Party, they often have clearer ideas of what they want. I am glad to be creative with them as they engage in the invitation process."

To help customers with all their party needs, Heleene carries a full line of note paper, favors, yarmulkas, sign-in-books, personalized napkins and place cards, programs and bridal accessories. "In this way, customers are able to select everything they need in one place and in a warm, comfortable environment," she said.

Also available are a number of gift items, ranging from greeting cards, stationery, baby announcements, evening bags and costume jewelry. "I try to carry items that are different from other stores, and the prices are excellent." Store hours are Wednesday - Friday from 11 am - 5 pm and Saturday from 11 am - 4pm.
